IndieAgora & Online Safety
Last updated: August 2025
At IndieAgora, we value freedom of expression, open discussion, and minimal interference in how our community interacts. Our aim is to foster a space where people can think critically, speak freely, and explore complex ideas—without excessive moderation or censorship.
However, as a platform that may be accessed by UK users, IndieAgora must also comply with the UK Online Safety Act 2023. This law requires us to take certain steps to reduce harm online and protect our users, especially minors.
What We Believe
We prefer light-touch moderation. We do not pre-approve posts, track your activity, or remove content simply for being controversial.
We believe adults should choose what they see. You can mute, block, or avoid content as you wish. We won’t force filters unless legally required.
We protect community freedom. Our goal is to keep discussions free from state-level overreach while still acting responsibly.
What We’re Legally Required to Do
To comply with the Online Safety Act:
Illegal content will be removed. This includes anything related to terrorism, child sexual abuse, hate speech, fraud, intimate image abuse, or content that encourages suicide or self-harm.
Children will be protected. If a part of our site is likely to be accessed by minors, we will apply age-appropriate controls and restrict harmful content such as pornography, extreme violence, or content promoting eating disorders.
Serious harms are not tolerated. Offences like cyberflashing, threatening communications, or promoting dangerous behavior are banned and may lead to reports to authorities.
We must provide a way to report content. Users can flag harmful or illegal material, which we will review and act on promptly.
How We Handle Content
We do not remove content just because it is offensive, unpopular, or politically incorrect. But we will:
Enforce our terms of service if you’re found breaking the law or targeting others with malicious intent.
Cooperate with Ofcom and UK law if your content violates the Online Safety Act.
Use minimal but effective tools to block or report dangerous content—especially in public areas of the site.
Your Role
Think before you post.
Respect others’ rights to speak—even if you disagree.
Use the tools we provide to block or report harmful content, not content you simply dislike.

IndieAgora is an open forum—within legal limits.
We’re here to defend the right to express ideas freely, while ensuring our platform does not become a space for abuse or harm.
