(kFoyauextlH thought you might appreciate this thread as well so i’ve copied and pasted it here)

I have created this thread as an exercise in exploring the deeper meanings behind concepts.

How would you go about selling your soul?

This thread is not about why you would or would not do such a thing (I know many of you would not do such a thing and think its stupid etc) that is entirely not the point.

For this exercise you will need to go into detail on 2 main parts.

      1. The soul – what is it? each person here will have a differing idea of what the soul is, so go into as much detail as you can on your idea of what a soul is.

(this thread is also not about arguing over whos version of the soul is right or wrong, that does not matter and is not the point. if you have questions for somebody else, when you reply to them follow the rules laid out in their description of what a soul is, you can ask them to clarify these rules etc but dont come at them from your soul-idea because you are asking them questions about their soul-idea)

      2. The sell – after you have explained in detail your idea and concept behind what a soul is describe in as best detail you can how you would go about selling it/ transferring it to somebody else etc.

I want to stress this is not about selling a novelty item such as a peice of paper stating “you own my soul” but the actual act and method of transferring your idea of the whole “Soul” as you describe above.

Not transferring the concept of the soul.
Not transferring the idea of the soul.
But the actual soul-object itself as described above.

      As a very simple example.

      1. Soul – an apple, a tasty fruit to some varying from greens and reds comes from a tree, can fit in most hands.

      2. The sell – a customer comes up to you asking to purchase a soul, you pick the soul up physically hand it to them and take some local currency in exchange, the soul is now theirs they are free to do with it what they wish. Throw it, eat it etc.

(The above is a very simple example, i will be slightly surprised if something similar comes up.)

I look forward to seeing what you can come up with.

How can you sell what you do not own? *mischievous grin*

How do I know I am in full possession of my soul/self? If someone does something and I get upset, now being occupied by anger/judgement, have I lost possession of myself?

In many spiritual traditions the soul is likened to a house or garden  with good or bad occupants, and good or bad plants. We reap what we sow/water, and we are occupied by the influences we invite into ourselves.

Beautiful! Please keep going all of you! I really enjoy this subject and wrote about it or asked about it as FreedomStands on LunaticOutpost and tried to lead conversations there on Wizard Forums at times but also wrote some emails regarding it on accounts I can’t access right now which thoroughly discuss the issue since I was being asked by people how they might go about doing this which I felt required elucidation on the elements involved. Please keep going on the topic in detail! I would also like to see some experimental thinking and pushing and grasping if possible.

I think ‘a’ soul , or ‘your’ soul, ‘my’ soul is misleading for defining what soul is. As we are talking about some kind of essence, it is therefore relational and subject to dependent origination.

What is not, is something we have no possession of, it is something that appears as part of a configuration. Soul would not emerge if there were no other relations and so it is something exercised and is expressed as a value in relations.

As it is relational, ‘selling’ is already somewhat what it is – it is a gift we exchange between self and other, it is given and taken by definition as a configuration in relations. So our concept of soul is an abstraction based on value, yet the ‘thing’ in itself is no where to be found.

The soul is part of the machine that knows what the machine is for. The soul may object to the machine and in that way it make itself known. The soul may of been constructesd by the machine, like a cell, replicated. It may have an outdated program ? It might be like an essence, constructed by the first layers of experience and much harder to see to get back to through all the layers, I suppose like the inner core of an onion.
As to selling the soul, it is not known who the buyer would be. The buyer would have to be outside of the machine. Maybe it would be more like a career change within the same organisation, the soul was working in the advertising department and then was transferred to the human resources department. The soul changed it’s outer layers and it’s surroundings.
