Thought you might find Heirophany interesting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hierophany?wprov=sfsi1
Ok, well I think mutuality on social media often means shouting into the void in our own corner. Eventually there will be antagonism and Facebook is the battle ground for these tribal face-offs in my experience anyway, nobody in a political discussion will change thier mind. If there are any, they were already sitting on the fence.
Tribes form because of ignorance and fear of the Other.
Yup, like treading on pins.
Haha, I just wondered if gender is as abstract as that or can be or what exactly any of it refers to.I thought its just a thing people say, that a male is a person with a penis generally, a female with a vagina or womb for womb-man.
I thought women typically have menstrual periods and bleed out of their vaginas and men generally are born with some sort of testacles and penises and both can be identified by certain traits that are biological.
Then there are cases of some kind of strange or unusual things, but also those who state that they are something else inside that doesn’t match up with their birth genitals or sexual or biological traits, but may at times match up with their sexual preferences or something, like people saying “I am a hetero sexual woman inside so I am attracted to the opposite sex”.
Biological traits are agreed upon as a way to define sex, which means that is a construct, there are many other factors, men and women’s brains are different too which is usually explained because of hormones and various evolutionary factors. Many of the experiments that make these claims have never been reproduced by others, so it’s still very inconclusive.
Biological sex really only has much use as a definition in terms of reproductive capabilities and in a legal and juridical sense. Biological sex is in terms of male and female, which is not the same as man and woman, masculine and feminine.
A gender is much more than what’s between our legs, chromosomes and reproductive capabilities, but then, as you say, it can also sound so incredibly abstract that it starts to sound very Platonist indeed.
I have met many people who are homosexual who seemed to have an incident where they were molested by family members or sometimes others but there isca lot of resistance as well to the idea of something happening like that and many say they were very young while they first felt different.
I have too, but not all of them are homosexual due to abuse. When I was looking into male and female biology, an interesting study came up that showed homosexual men are not biologically in any way like a female. Often, natural science is thrown into the mix of identity politics to change laws, which is all good, but it is not always true – there is no ‘gay-gene’, never was and never will be. The fact of the matter is, some men like other men, it’s been around for all time and especially the Greeks. It is only in recent history that we defined it as ‘homo-sexuality’, which was a medical term and not an identity as such, but that was what it became.
This is somewhat interesting, an example of the non-linear nature of modern politics. A far right trans and gay movement has been on the go since 2012 (the world didn’t end and a black man was still president, therefore white genocide etc  )
It’s called ‘pink-washing’ – a play on white-wash. Using trans and gay issues to divide left wing politics and instead promote military intervention and antisemitism. This can be incredibly confusing, as the far right are usually divisive over racism to be honest, but when it comes to women, they all sing the same tune.
I would also read this book above, as this is not the first time trans movements have been accused of dividing the left, although there are many who voice this stuff out of bigotry, we can’t ignore folks like Milo Yiannopoulos, Caitlan Jenner, Blaire White and Lauren Southern (who isn’t lgbt, or lesbian) who are using trans issues to give the right more of an advantage.
My answer is I honestly don’t know, looks like an anomaly of some kind either way.
Welcome to OPF @”Seeker”
Gender essentialism is saying sex is equal to gender, that sex informs gender, but not only has this been shown to be false and oppressive, it may be the other way around.
It is complicated when trans-people are involved, a more holistic approach may be required, but for now, gender as it has been understood prior to the new sciences that attempt to explain transgender sees gender as a social construct through performance, however, this has to be suspended for transgender definitions, which at the moment, require an essentialist narrative for sex reassignment surgery to ho ahead, but it’s a different form of essentialism from what I can tell.
The big question is what gender is and how we can approach it.
[hr]
It’s an incredibly complex theory that hasn’t been decided on yet and will require alot of reading.Certain aspects of the problem is that is seems to cancel out aspects of feminist theory, but I suspend judgement here as I am sure it is not intended.
Very difficult to discuss this subject.
So Butler basically says gender essentialism is the narrative that has to be used in order for surgery to go ahead, Reimer’s case neither proves nor disproves construction. We should be open to a holistic theory of gender for the time being.
Dr.Money was a piece of shit I have to say, forcing ‘her’ and ‘her’ brother to perform mock coital exercises with one another, on command.
I don’t think there is any way to really talk it out with someone capable of hurting a little girl. I think the only way to deal with people like that is to terrorize (for pleasure) then execute such people and their accomplices (the mother) and then the whole society if they decide the torture and execution of the parents was in bad taste.
How to change constructs is a mammoth of a task, but I am ever the optimist that if we can perform new roles that are less constrictive, they will congeal enough over time to develop much freer forms. We are either happy or unhappy with roles and those who are unhappy will probably do more to change them for the better.
I don’t believe people simply have the right to live just because they do. Human neings largely happily kill diseases and infections, why not those spreading them as well. They have the right to try to save themselves, but not to actually be spared. I’m really only satisfied by the idea of utterly terrorizing and killing certain people. I celebrate the deaths of people too, sometimes its the best news ever to hear the menaces are finally dead, after knowing what they did and do, and I hate Nature and God and Justice or the lack thereof for not killing these scumbags earlier. They keep spreading vileness until the day they die. They also often wish me dead without justification just because I am a default bad guy in their views or a pest. These people are womanizers and terrorists. I would, if I could, happily terrorize and end their lives, but do not do so because of consequences and fears and not wanting to get in trouble.
Meh, I don’t know, but most of the time this only leads to tit for tat and only strengthens the validity of certain norms.
If I were a justice ghost though, unable to be stopped, I would visit them, and question them, and in their horror of the supernatural they would shudder and admit to their crimes. I would then make them out of fear change their ways until such a time as the children are fine, and if the person slips up either a reminder or death for them. That is only because sending children into child services can be another mess, really its better to just have all these humans killed once and for all or utterly enslaved. Everyone cries oh no. Why? They consider themselves the sort of people who want to retain their freedom to take a piece of wood and beat a little girl with it? Yeah, anyone who wants to maintain that freedom needs to be in chains or dead themselves.
I love a Christmas carol 🙂
I hate that she calls her Mama. Sick. In the case of this girl I’d try to convince her to take her own life since she is polluting my world as well now that she has become so damaged. Her crime is calling the accomplice to her beating Mama.
She’s from the Southern States I believe, but yeah, often abusers have the most respect given to them.
The good news is that little girl grew to be an important voice that spreads awareness of patriarchy.
I think you ate mostly a social anarchist, kind of Kropotkin-esque. Each according to need and ability.
I don’t know to be honest, I don’t think I could define myself as belonging to a general over all group. I usually end up associated with groups and blamed for their actions, as are identity politics these days, but I treat others as they arrive, as they come.
I suppose the big divide these days is between those who bury heads in sand in regards to climate change and those who don’t.
Additionally, my gender therapist remarks that Butler’s theory of queerness is completely dismissive of trans people’s experiences. I am not trying to follow any of the societally defined gender roles. I am just a female. That is all.
I see nothing of the sort in Butler and there is a massive rejection of post-structuralism within feminism which I am aware of, I think it’s because of performance coming across as ‘not real/authentic’ and this is simply not the case at all. Making Butlers’ work into one concept/identity i.e. ‘queer’ means you’ve reified queer as the end in and of itself. My reading of Butler was an endless opening of possibilities and one that accepts sexual difference.
I came to the same conclusion myself, I am just me, take me as I come.
I’m sorry if sharing my experience with you offends you in anyway, but that was what happened, I live an experimental lifestyle.
We all form groups based on how we act, how we act forms images which we define ourselves for others with and they in turn do the same, struggle is contingent. Identities are formed by images from the ego and this informs the subject to give the impression that we are not fragmented beings, but a coherent whole.
