So if you didn’t exist, everything else in reality would not exist as your mind could not construct it?

In the reality that is constructed by my mind then yes that would be the case.

You talk like there is one reality, which is not the case at all.

What kinds of ‘stuff’ are there in the universe, are there only physical things, or is reality made up of both mental and physical things, or is there only mental properties to reality?

Only mental properties to reality.  After all it is my mind that gives meaning to what my senses tell it.  Therefore reality is a construction of my mind trying to make sense of the information that it is given.

Brilliant idea.  I will be contributing to the writing zone, once I get caught up with things.  I love to write 🙂  Thank you very much 🙂

          Had any ideas?

Plenty of ideas, time is another thing.  Seems to be in short supply lately 🙁

            What does ‘mean’ mean?

The same thing that it does in the question.

            Never common sense! https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/meaning/  😉

            Also see: https://youtu.be/k52wcLOKzkU

‘Mean’ comes from the statistical usage of the term, as opposed to averages, mean is the better way to measure what’s in between.

It could be the meaning by using the word mean.

I can’t accept this as a terrorist attack, the location is political, but he just looks like a lone looney.

That is something I can believe more that it is just a lone looney. Someone hoping for attention or misguided.

Okay so meaning of lives is down to what perspective you are looking at it from, from a relative point of view, but there is no ultimate meaning but at the same time there is a certain amount of determinism.

Yes that is what I am saying in a way. That there is no ultimate meaning unless we choose to have one. After all we could make the choice of letting someone else decide what is the meaning of our life. If that happen enough then there could be a ultimate meaning.

I think the answer is an open ended one. In other words there is not one answer that fits all life. Life decides its own meaning. I can give the meaning of my life, but I cannot give the meaning of any other life because its decides for itself. So the question as posed to me has no answer.

Those are some awesome pictures and thank you for sharing them. I wish I had some countryside pics to share. But this is Australia, the countryside is pretty flat and boring in my part of it 🙁

Denial is one possible reason.  Not having to deal with the idea that we may cease to exist when we die.

Not so much reject, but to acknowledge that ‘going back to the source’ to find the ‘purest form’ is a habit of knowledge. We will find it very hard to delve under culture. Go to my Derrida and Writing as Language thread, it explains how we live on the outside, that the language of mathematics for example, is not most pure when we counted with sticks and stones, or whatever, it is supplementary – this means that something like the square root of minus one does not exist in real world terms at all- we have to invent rules for that to be, so mathematics as a language is in its ‘purest form’ in its most unnatural state. That’s the principle anyway.

Your explanation for the language of mathematics makes it more clearer to me what you mean. We want something that explains without adding or supplementing concepts that are not part of pure form. Yes mathematics help explain what we where doing when counting with sticks. But eventually mathematics as it was developed as a language ran into that problem of the square root of negative numbers. So it add the concept of an imaginary number to define it which is not part of the pure form.

That the same thing with essences. That it starts off fine explaining consciousness but as it is developed it runs into the same problem that mathematics did. That it invents things to make it itself work as language of consciousness. So to understand consciousness better we need acknowledge that and start over. Finding something that explains it without adding on things. That its language describes the pure form and nothing but the pure form.
